Welcome to Thompson Psychology

Hello, I'm Bec.
I'm a registered psychologist—as well as a mum, partner, friend, advocate, and ally. While my work is grounded in evidence-based approaches, my therapeutic style is built on compassion, authenticity, and connection. I know that coming to therapy can feel daunting, and I want you to know this is a safe and supportive space.

Over the past eight years, I’ve had the privilege of working across a wide range of mental health areas. In 2021, after the birth of my second child, I began my own journey into solo private practice.

My approach is flexible, eclectic, and neuro-affirming. I draw from a range of evidence-based therapies, including:

  • Schema Therapy and parts-informed approaches – An integrative model combining CBT, Gestalt, and psychodynamic elements. These approaches help uncover and shift unhelpful core beliefs and patterns, promoting emotional stability and growth.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) – A values-driven therapy that supports emotional acceptance, mindful awareness, and committed action. ACT helps build psychological flexibility and a more meaningful life.

  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) – A skills-based approach that strengthens emotional regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and mindfulness—especially helpful for those managing intense emotions or relationship challenges.

  • Somatic-based Therapy – A body-oriented method that helps clients process trauma and stress through bodily awareness and movement, restoring a sense of safety and balance.

  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) – A structured, practical approach that explores the link between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. CBT empowers clients with tools to navigate life’s challenges and build resilience.

  • Play Therapy – A developmentally appropriate, child-led approach using play, storytelling, and creativity to help children express emotions, process experiences, and build social-emotional skills.

  • Art-informed Therapies – Using art as a form of expression and exploration, these creative therapies offer a non-verbal path to healing for children, teens, and adults alike.

  • Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) – A structured trauma therapy that helps resolve distressing memories, phobias, and grief by processing unhelpful beliefs and supporting adaptive emotional integration.
