About Bec Bec Thompson, Registered Psychologist

Hello, I'm Bec.

I graduated from James Cook University in 2016 and have spent nearly a decade working across a wide range of mental health areas. I'm a neurodivergent psychologist with a special interest in continuing to learn — always seeking out new evidence-informed approaches and listening to lived experience.

I am LGBTQI+ affirming, disability affirming, and genuinely non-judgmental — you will be accepted here as you are, with everything you bring. I'm also a mum of two, a reluctant embracer of change, and someone you'll usually find with a cold unfinished coffee, an elaborate creative project I've never done before, or a planned trip somewhere.

My aim is for you to feel heard, seen, and respected — with space to learn more about yourself, heal, and grow along the way.

Accessible & accommodating

I'm happy to adapt to what works for you.

Don't like eye contact? No worries. Need to move around, use a fidget, or sit somewhere different? That's fine. I want the space to feel comfortable and workable for you — just let me know what helps.

How I work

Therapeutic Approach

I draw on a range of evidence-based modalities, tailored to each person's needs and goals.

Schema Therapy & parts-informed

Integrative approach addressing core beliefs and unhelpful patterns.

ACT

Values-driven therapy building psychological flexibility and meaningful living.

EMDR

Structured trauma therapy processing distressing memories and experiences.

DBT

Skills-based approach for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and relationships.

CBT

Practical tools exploring the link between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.

Somatic Therapy

Body-oriented processing of trauma and stress, restoring safety and balance.

Play Therapy

Child-led, neuro-affirming. Uses play and creativity to support expression.

Art-Informed

Creative, non-verbal pathways for children, teens, and adults.

A note for parents of children aged 0–12: My model is highly parent-involved. Research shows one hour of therapy with a parent can be as effective as 80 hours of direct work with a child. Expect parent-only sessions focused on adjusting approaches, advocating for your child, and applying strategies at home.
