Mental Health Treatment Plan

Medicare — requires a current GP referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP)

ServiceNotesDurationFeeMedicare RebateOut-of-pocket
Initial Appointment 80 min direct + 10 min non-direct. For child/adolescent clients, this session is with parent/caregiver(s) only. 90 min total $375.00 $101.55 $273.45

Extended Session 80 min direct + 10 min non-direct. For clients requiring extended processing time or more complex sessions. 90 min total $375.00 $101.55 $273.45
Non-Direct Services Support letters, reports, stakeholder liaison, resource development. Not eligible for Medicare rebate. Reflects time spent $250/hr
pro rata
N/A Full cost to client
Important Medicare notes: A valid GP referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan are required. Rebates apply to item 80110. You must attend for more than 50 minutes for these rebates to apply — a different (lower) rebate applies if you attend for less than 20 minutes, and non-attended appointments do not attract a rebate. Non-direct time, support letters, and stakeholder liaison are not eligible for rebate. Referrals are usually written for an initial 6 sessions, then a further referral covers the rest of your 10-session yearly allocation; referrals no longer expire by date — they stay valid until all sessions on them are used. Leftover sessions can carry into January without a new GP visit, counting towards (not adding to) the new year's 10-session allocation. If you reach the Medicare Safety Net threshold, Medicare reimburses 80% of further out-of-pocket costs for the rest of the calendar year — check your progress via myGov. Thresholds reset every 1 January.

Chronic Disease Management Plan

Medicare — up to 5 additional rebated sessions via a GP Chronic Disease Management Plan (formerly EPC/Team Care Arrangement)

ServiceNotesDurationFeeMedicare RebateOut-of-pocket
Standard Session 50 min direct + 10 min non-direct. 60 min total $250.00 $63.40 $186.60
Extended Session 80 min direct + 10 min non-direct. 90 min total $375.00 $63.40 $311.60
Important notes: Requires a current GP Chronic Disease Management Plan with a referral to see a psychologist. Medicare rebates $63.40 per session (MBS item 10956) regardless of session length, up to a combined total of 5 allied health sessions per calendar year — this cap is shared across every provider on your plan, and is lower than the Better Access rebate above. Safety Net rules apply as above once your threshold is reached.

Eating Disorder Treatment Plan

Medicare — requires a valid Eating Disorder Treatment and Management Plan (EDTMP) from your GP or psychiatrist

ServiceNotesDurationFeeMedicare RebateOut-of-pocket

Extended Session 80 min direct + 10 min non-direct. 90 min total $375.00 $72.00 $303.00
Important notes: Medicare rebates $72.00 per session for up to 40 individual psychological treatment sessions within a 12-month period from the date of your plan. Reviews are required at set milestones — after 10, 20 and 30 sessions — before further sessions become accessible. Safety Net rules apply as above once your threshold is reached.

NDIS Clients

Self-managed and plan-managed participants only — I am not NDIA registered. Fees and durations are the same across all ages and management types.

The NDIS Pricing Arrangements set the maximum psychology rate at $252.99/hr (national rate). Thompson Psychology's rate of $250/hr is below this cap and applies consistently across all session types. Fees are billed pro rata based on time actually spent — e.g. a Standard Session (45 min therapy + 15 min case notes = 60 min) is $250.00. An optional emailed session summary is available on request, billed pro rata for the additional time.

Payment & billing

Payment Terms

How to Pay

Payment is due on the day of service.

Credit card — processed via Halaxy. A processing fee of 1.9% + $1 currently applies (e.g. $5.75 on a $250 session).

Bank transfer — no processing fee. Payment must be made on the same day of service.

Your nominated payment method is collected during intake and applies to all appointments.

Late Payment Policy

Invoices unpaid after 14 days will incur a $20 late fee.

Repeated late payments may result in a requirement for upfront payment.

For Medicare clients: rebates may be delayed when paying by bank transfer. Halaxy allows same-day electronic rebate processing.

Credit card surcharging changes from 1 October 2026. From that date, Visa, Mastercard, and eftpos will prohibit merchants from passing on card processing fees to clients (enforced through merchant agreements). The current processing fee of 1.9% + $1 amounts to $5.75 on a $250 session and $8.13 on a $375 session — across a full caseload this is not sustainable to absorb. From 1 October 2026, all clients will be asked to pay by bank transfer. A separate notice with bank details will be sent ahead of that date.
